Excellent set, but do NOT pay more than $319
By KR
First off, please don't spend more than $319 for this set. As of this review (October 3, 2013), Amazon.com does not have this set in stock yet. Only 3rd party sellers are offering this set at upward of $400 and more. You can buy this set directly from Lego (shop.lego.com, Lego stores) for the MSRP of $319. Once Amazon has this set in stock and at the right price, I will amend this review. But, 3rd party seller prices have no effect on my rating of this set and description below.

This set is large, complex, and stunning.... perfect for any Lego fan. The roof portions of the opera house appear to be constructed from large white pieces from the exterior.... but building the set will require a lot of technique and pieces in constructing the interior roof supports. The set looks very nice when finished and on display.

This set retails for $319 and has 2989 pieces. This is slightly higher than the 10 cents/piece benchmark, but the set is still well worth the price for it's assortment of pieces, build experience, and sheer size (11 inches tall x 25 inches wide x 15 inches deep). The box itself is biiig. This set should be available from Lego for about 2 years (until late 2015 at least), and afterward the price will surely skyrocket close to $1000 or higher.

So in summary, get this set for the experience, the finished product, the piece assortment, and the investment.

Beautiful
By Seb
Sydney Opera House... Iconic! Bought it and got it delivered just before the 40th Anniversary celebration on Oct 19. Nearly 3000 pieces, but very nice. Creation is now nicely displayed, pending the final covered display I'm getting done.
