One of the best in the six inch line.
By Shane Amazon
When this new line was first introduced the two figures I looked forward to the most were the Boba Fett figure and the Sandtrooper figure. Now that I have both I can tell you that Hasbro does not disappoint. Let me break it down to pros and cons.

Action Figure:
Starting at the head you'll notice that Hasbro doesn't intend on producing a simple six-inch figure alone, here we see that the attention to detail is intended to replicate the look of each character in the movie.

Pros -
1) The helmet is molded perfectly to the look of the onscreen character. Its weather-worn look and spots of sand colored paint make the helmet look great.
2) The leather cloak over the figures shoulder is very well done and can be removed if need be.
3) The hinges at the shoulder are well painted to hide that they are actually hinges, and they are well hidden under the figures shoulder armor.
4) The figures armor is well molded and painted. The sand colored wash makes the figure look like he's been out in the desert of Tatooine searching for our lost droids for days on end.
5) Even the the paint scheme is pretty basic on the figure with the black and white colors being prominent, Hasbro does a good job not forgetting the little bits and pieces that need separate colors, too.

Cons -
1) Even though it is a minor complaint there is some paint run over along some of the figures connection points. The belt has a little white here and there where it is supposed to be black, and black where it supposed to be white. Not unexpected.

Accessories:
The best feature of the piece is probably the accessories. The included weapons and backpack are really the icing on the cake here.

Pros -
1) The E-11 Blastech blaster is a well molded piece and is not bent like some molded weapons can get.
2) On the troopers medium sized rifle, we see just how much Hasbro loves these larger figures. The colors used are amazing and the paint job is very well done. The strap is one color, the grips are another and Hasbro even put little bits of yellow on it just like in the movie stills.
3) If a blaster and a rifle are not enough then don't forget the third rifle this figure comes with. Though much more simple than the the others in paint scheme, it is far more detailed in the war-worn look. This one is the long heavy repeating machine gun and it looks great.
4) The backpack is a great piece and is removable. The colors are screen accurate, and the paint job is very good. Removable, too.

Cons -
1) The E-11 blaster is a little too clean for this piece. I know that every trooper must keep their weapon in pristine shape but having a blaster this clean in comparison to how the trooper himself looks worn and torn make the two look odd being together.
2) The E-11 doesn't unfold at the stock or under the barrel like we have seen in other smaller figures.

Articulation:
With plenty of articulation this piece should be easy to both play with and pose. Hasbro choosing to use better hinges and joints make this piece a higher quality than some we've seen in the past.

Pros -
1) The head has ball joint movement that is somewhat limited by the size of the helmet.
2) The shoulders have ball-joint hinges that give limited motion with the armor pads.
3) The elbows have ball-joint movement and hinge joint movement as well.
4) The wrists are swivel joint AND hinge jointed. Nice feature.
5) The torso or upper stomach is ball jointed.
6) The upper legs at the waist are ball jointed.
7) The knees are double jointed with upper and lower hinges.
8) The ankles are rocker hinged.

Cons-
1) The limitations on the joints by the armor may displease some collectors.

Package:
Almost as artistic as the piece itself, Hasbro's art department pulls no punches when it came to box design.

Pros-
1) One of the best features that fans really took to when these figures were announced was the package. The matte black finish and the orange line down the front really makes it stand out on shelves.

Cons-
1) The matte black surface does show scratches and indents well, so special care will need to be taken when handling if you plan to collect the product instead of playing with it.

Overall:

Pros-
1) Great first six inch Sandtrooper figure we've seen on the market.
2) Great accessories.
3) Attention to detail.
4) Great paint job.
5) Great package.

Cons-
1) Sandtrooper is weather worn but the accessories are not, they are too clean in comparison.
2) Not a lot of articulation do to armor.
3) Package isn't very durable.
4) A little paint over run here and there.

This Sandtrooper sells this line

I was not looking forward to collect 6" figure, until I saw the pictures of the Sandtrooper. It was way too cool figure to pass in the Vintage Collection, and now in the Black Series 6" line. I was doomed.

This is Sandtrooper is from the Black Series 6" line, as seen on A New Hope.

The articulation of this figure is short of awesome, surpassing the best from the Vintage Collection:
- Ball-joined head, front-back hinged neck,
- ball-hinged shoulders, swivel biceps,
- ball-hinged elbows, ball-hinged wrists,
- ball-joined torso,
- ball-hinged hips, swivel thighs,
- front-back hinged higher and lower knees, and ball-hinged ankles.

Hasbro's modelers have taken full advantage of this armored figure to hide the articulation as much as possible. You still can see the pegs on the ball-hinges elbows and hinged knees, but the swivel on the biceps and thighs are almost imperceptible, and the ball-hinges on the shoulders and hips are well hidden by the armor. Unfortunately, the armor limits the freedom of moment on those parts as well.

However, the way the ball-hinged ankles work is ingenious. The foot angles front-back, but swivels inwards-outwards. So, if you stretch the legs, swiveling the feet inward would allow the sole of shoes to be parallel to the ground. This makes the figure very stable even in action poses. In addition, the figure can angle the wrist inward-outward, specially valuable when trying to pose the figure holding its blaster rifle with both hands.

On top of a great sculpt and articulation, this figure has an amazing paint job. The black lines on the helmet are spot on, and the blue highlights behind the cheeks and temples are well detailed. Also, the white of the armor have been appropriately covered with a dirt wash. These are details that were good on the Vintage Collection version of this character, but great on this version.

Yet, many accessories has been included to complement an already awesome figure. Besides its blaster pistol, the figure include a light repeating blaster rifle and a long blaster rifle. In addition, the figure includes a removable back pack, which the figure balances well when attached to it, and a removable orange shoulder pauldron.

This figure may have its faults, but I'm too distracted with the good in its sculpt, paint and articulation to notice. The only thing missing is more of them in my collection.

In all, this is a great figure with many weapons to use for posing for those scenes in A New Hope.

Best of series one

Thus is what you've been yearning for. A real six inch scale Star Wars figure. This is the Sandtrooper. He is well detailed and has paint detailing such as dust specs on his uniform and helmet.

Of the figures in wave 1, I feel he's the best because of the paint job and details. He comes with three weapons, blaster, rifle blaster and long range blaster.

I give him five out of five.
