Best. Lightsaber. Ever.
By J.F.
Now I'll start this review off stating I am a grown man. And a huge Star Wars nerd...

This light saber is amazing, I just had to buy one when I saw these at Target. Why didnt they make these when I was a kid? All we had were the telescopic ones which weren't very bright or accurate looking, and the handles were really fat just so the telescopic saber would collapse and fit into them.

Then there were force FX replicas which were beautifully crafted, extremely bright, film accurate, and have removable handles (newer force FX ones can, older ones can't). They even came with a nice stand so you could display it anywhere you wanted to show how proud you are of your nerdom. Unfortunately these were so shiny and delicate, you just felt like they were a collector's item for novelty and display, not much actual abuse and battling.

Then came along these new cheaper FX blades. They're in my opinion "cheaper force FX" lightsabers meant for small kids to beat each other with (or adult nerds!) These are perfect. Hasbro finally combined accurate style, the durability to abuse and bash them around, and a cheaper price tag.

Sadly the blade on these aren't removable, but they're so amazingly bright and durable! The sound effects are about the same to me, when you bash them and wave them quickly in the air you'll hear swooshes and hums like it claims. Unlike the force FX sabers which have smooth and even lighting throughout the blade, from very up close, you can notice gaps between the lights inside. From a distance the blade looks bright and solid colored.

The accuracy and details on the handle are pretty good, not 100% accurate, but much better than most light saber toys from the past. The handles are accurate sized and just feel right. Everything's plastic, so you wont be finding really any metal in the handle construction.

My only major complaint is the length of the blade. It would be nicer if it was another 12 inches longer, but I understand this is a kid's toy, not the force FX replicas. They only come in Anakin and Darth Vader options right now, but I'd love to see more in stores such as yoda, obi-wan, mace winu, and more.

Highly recommend these light sabers!

Insert Nerd Laugh Here

Ok. So I am 36. When I came accross this "toy" my eyes lit up and my heart skipped a beat as if I was 7 years old again. Ok, so I may be exagerrating a bit, but I must say this thing is awesome. The bigger replica FX lightsabers are more for collecting and displaying and not meant to play with and the $120+ price tag doesn't help. These gems at around $30, are the perfect toy. Oh I forgot to mention, I bought them for my 8 year old so HE can play with them. I bought both the Vader and Anakin, if they came out with the green Luke I will get that for my, eh-hem, son too. Its just about 3 ft long and the hilt (handle) should be slender enough for the kids. It is fairly light but built well. The sound effects are great, the lights are nice and bright. We played outside, um, HE was playing outside after sun down and both the Red and Blue were briliantly bright, that said, the colors in the day hrs were fairly bright too. My son has a couple of the lighted "colapsing" light sabers but the lights on this blows them away. If this came out 25-30 years ago, I would've lost my mind (so much for my broomstick method). I was skeptical about the durability, especially since the more expensive replica FX type warns to NOT duel with it. But it held up nicely. We, er, HE was somewhat aggressive with it, mainly because HE was so excited, but I would not suggest trying to chop down a tree with it...it is plastic after all. The "power up" and "power down" lighted sequences are pretty cool too, add the sound effects and you have a complete durable toy. That's right I said toy, so for the price and size DO NOT HESITATE to get this for your favorite Jedi, young...or old.

It only took 34 years, but they got it right!

My wife, bless her, got this for me yesterday as my yearly anniversary gift. It's the greatest! Until I can cough up the dough for the $100 model, this is the best toy ever (well, after my Playmates original release Star Trek Communicator). It has the motion sensor which controls the sound FX, the "blade" itself is very bright, even in daylight. I, too, wish it were about a foot longer, but with the way my son waves it about maybe the shorter blade isn't such a bad idea. I just can't figure out yet how the blade "powers up" (the light effect advances up the tube from the hilt when you power it on) and reverses itself when it powers down. Better buy stock in Energizer or Duracell...these things are going to eat LOTS of batteries!
